We sailed on February 24 onboard the Norwegian Cruis Ship Dream starting from the port of Houston, TX.
We had 3 days at sea and three days in port. Visiting Progreso and Cozumel, Mexico and Belize City, Belize.
We visited Merida City (Mexico's 2nd largest city) and the Mayan ruins od Dzibilchaltun. We also went snorkling in Cozumel at Palancar reef.
Merida's unique culture has evolved and is reflected everywhere from the magnificent character of its architecture, cuisine and people. The Dzibilchaltun Mayan Ruins, founded in 2000 B.C., are considered by archeologists the oldest Mayan ceremonial center in the Yucatan. The most important structure is the temple of the seven dolls where a phenomenon of sunlight can be seen during the equinox. Next, visit the city of Merida and experience its grace and antiquity. See the principal square of the city, a cathedral, numerous public buildings, residencies, museums and parks are all within easy strolling distance. The horse-drawn carriages travel along the tree-lined Paseo de Montejo Boulevard lined with sidewalk cafes and restaurants. Visit the conqueror Montejo´s house, the Cathedral, the Montejo Boulevard, the residential areas, the old market (a perfect location for good shopping) and the Main Plaza.
